The Creative Lab, organized under the Abu Dhabi Media Council, held a series of virtual workshops for students aged 9 to 12. The initiative, held during the spring break, aimed to introduce children to the fundamentals of storytelling, screenwriting, and digital content creation. The event attracted 38 students from across Abu Dhabi, offering them an early opportunity to explore the creative media sector through interactive educational experiences. These workshops are designed to foster creativity, build self-confidence, and encourage self-expression. One session focused on screenwriting, developing storytelling skills, and their fundamentals, including character creation, plot development, and story structure. Participants had the chance to write their own stories in Arabic or English and present them to their peers, which boosted their confidence in their creative abilities and public speaking skills. A second session covered storytelling methods on the YouTube platform. Students learned the principles of digital content production and the visual presentation of stories through creating illustrations and ideas for characters. They also discovered how to design engaging and conscious content targeted at audiences through digital platforms. The workshops coincided with the UAE's Month of Reading, highlighting the importance of storytelling, reading, and creative writing for younger generations. 'Introducing young generations to creative media skills at an early age helps them discover the importance of storytelling and enhances their confidence in expressing their ideas,' said Aisha Al Jabri, Director of Talent Development at the Media Council. 'The Creative Lab aims to nurture curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking among youth, providing them with real opportunities to get to know the media and creative industries.' She added that collaborating with sector partners and expanding learning opportunities across the emirate helps build a solid foundation for the next generation of storytellers and content creators who will contribute to the growth of the UAE's creative economy. The workshops also helped highlight a number of promising talents in various creative fields, including voice acting, storytelling, and public speaking skills.
